If human cloning does become a practical reality, is it a reality we humans should countenance? Leon R. Kass and James Q. Wilson share a fundamental aversion to the notion of human cloning, but their reticence derives from different views of the importance of sexual reproduction, the role of the family, and the likely social consequences of human cloning. En dan lees je het nieuwe boek van éen van interessantste Nederlandse schrijvers, en wil je proberen overbrengen waarom die man zo goed schrijft. Maar dat lukt dan niet aan de hand van een treffend citaat, of door het overschrijven van een goed gelukte bladzijde. De kwaliteit zit in iets anders; in de opeenstapeling van kwaliteiten eigenlijk. Waarvan éen een opvallend en verfrissend gemis aan schrijverstrucjes is.

Maar Hans Vervoort heeft dan ook zijn hele leven een normale baan gehad, en niet de gemankeerde kunstenaar uitgehangen. Daarom hebben zijn boeken meestal een setting die verder nauwelijks bij andere schrijvers voorkomt.

Vervoort heeft een eigen website, maar ook daar wordt het raadsel niet opgelost. Anders zou ik wel citeren.
