Your latest find is more of an invention: the new geological age of the “Anthropocene”.
This happened at a meeting three years ago. Someone said something about the Holocene, the geological era covering the period since the end of the last ice age. I suddenly thought this was wrong. In the past 200 years, humans have become a major geological force on the planet. So I said, no, we are not in the Holocene any more: we are in the Anthropocene. I just made up the word on the spur of the moment. But it seems to have stuck.

Het klinkt niet alsof u veel vertrouwen in politici heeft.
‘De huidige generatie politici wil niet horen dat plannen niet werken. Dat is onwelkome informatie. Dat deed ook Netelenbos met de Betuwelijn: bij onwelkome informatie deed ze gewoon de handen op de oren, dat wilde ze niet horen. Dat is politieke gemakzucht. Ze willen goed nieuws horen. Iemand die slecht nieuws brengt, is een zeikerd. Zo kinderachtig is het.´

´Ik zeg niet dat de politiek in het algemeen verrot is. Met Paars een hadden we een groep goede politici. Ik zeg dat de huidige generatie Haagse politici onder de maat is, hoewel, een aantal heeft nog een blanco strafblad en moet zich nog bewijzen. Ook de oppositie moet met goede alternatieven komen.
